EP.43: “THE EXCEPTION” (FEAT. CHRISTINE)

What if being late one morning changed the rest of your life?

On Episode 43 of Unfit For Radio with JAYKERS, we’re doing something a little different. For this conversation, we’re setting the jokes aside as longtime UFR guest CHRISTINE shares a deeply personal story about September 11, 2001, and the unexpected chain of events that kept her from being at the World Trade Center that morning.

Twenty-five years ago, CHRISTINE was in New York for a corporate leadership summit and was scheduled to be at the World Trade Center. But when her alarm clock failed to go off, she woke up late and never made it there.

What happened next changed her life forever.

CHRISTINE takes us back to that morning and shares what it was like experiencing the chaos from just blocks away, feeling the impact of the attacks, being evacuated from her hotel, losing communication with her family, and wondering whether she would ever make it home to her husband and four-year-old son in Phoenix.

She opens up about the years that followed, including survivor’s guilt, counseling, therapy, faith, unanswered questions, and learning to live with the reality that, no matter how much we plan, some things are simply beyond our control.

CHRISTINE also shares another deeply personal story she has never talked about before: surviving gun violence while in college. Her roommate was shot, CHRISTINE was spared, and the gunman ultimately took his own life.

This is more than a conversation about 9/11. It’s a story about life, timing, family, trauma, faith, purpose, perspective, and the seemingly small moments that can change everything.

And because this is still Unfit For Radio, we couldn’t let CHRISTINE leave without bringing a little UFR personality back into the room. RAY closes out the conversation with two original limericks written especially for CHRISTINE.

This is CHRISTINE’S story: She is “The Exception.”
